Discord configuration

Overview

Discord is a popular chat platform that works similarly to tools like Slack and Microsoft Teams but is more catered towards gaming communities.

Discord provides two key capabilities for this server:

  • The login platform for accessing additional user features on this website.

  • A private voice and text chat community (also called a Discord server) that connects to the Minecraft server's chat.

Using Discord is not required for this Minecraft Server; it's just an extra offering.

Creating and logging in with your Discord account

  1. Discord uses a single account for all its communities. To begin, sign up for a Discord account if you don't already have one.

Your Discord username does not have to match your Minecraft username.

  1. Discord provides downloadable apps for desktop computers and mobile devices if you prefer.

  2. Once you have a Discord account, you can connect it to this website using the login button below. By doing so, Discord will ask your permission to connect your Discord account.

To protect your privacy, none of the personal information you used to sign up for Discord will be shared with this website; only an ID number linked to your Discord account will be used.

You will also notice that the permissions request will ask for your permission to join servers on your behalf. This will allow you to be automatically added to the Discord server in a future step.

Log in now to proceed, then follow the remaining steps on this page.

Linking your Minecraft account

Now that you're logged in to the website with Discord, we need to tell it which Minecraft account is associated with your Discord account.

  1. Enter the /discord command in the chat. You will receive a message in the chat with a code.

  2. Enter the code you received in the chat below to link your Minecraft account to your Discord account:

Accessing the Discord server

After completing the above steps, you should see your Minecraft username in the navigation menu of this site, plus additional menus relating to your account. You should now also have access to the LukeCreative Minecraft server through the Discord website and application.

The server, for now, is relatively basic, featuring a #general voice channel and a #global channel for all players for text messaging. This channel is linked to the in-game chat, so messages sent in-game will appear in the Discord channel and vice versa. In-game, you'll see messages from Discord formatted like this:

LukeCreative (Discord): This is a message.

Check out the chat reference page for more information about in-game chat.
